It's common to see tons of praise for things like the voice castings, dialogue, and performances - and while they can be great - it's rare to see anyone talk about the downsides of those things. That being said, I would like to point out some of my major problems with it. I love the dub and think it's great, but I do also think it's extremely overrated and a lot of people who hold it in high regard are very, very biased towards it, especially subbed anime fans who consider it one of the only good dubs. It mainly comes down to the voices, and there are other things I could list about why I dislike the English dub, but this would turn into a novel. It's just kinda there, but I still feel like the Japanese actor did a much better portrayal. I'm indifferent on Hiei, I don't love or hate his voice. Justin Cook may actually be the only good thing I can say about the English dub, however I like the original voice actor better. The only thing I dislike was the renaming Rei-Gun to Spirit Gun, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Yusuke's voice is actually fine, Justin Cook did a pretty good job here. In the English dub they pronounce it when it should be. My second criticism of Kurama's English portrayal is the mispronouncing of his name. Kurama's original VA being a woman brings the right amount of feminine nature to his character while still remaining masculine leaning. Kurama is effeminate in nature but his English voice actor has too deep of a voice in my opinion. I strongly dislike the Yajirobe style voice for Kuwabara. His voice is deep when speaking normally, but cracks and gets incredibly high pitched when flustered by Yukina or other reasoning. It's incredibly cringe and his original Japanese voice (who also voices Buggy from One Piece for reference) actor does an amazing job voicing him. Had he not used the Yajirobe voice for him. Kuwabara being voiced by Christopher Sabat would have been fine. After having seen both versions of the show I can't stand the dub. I'll preface this by saying that I absolutely love this series, it's easily in my top 10 of all time, but for some reason when YYH is brought up (especially for first time watchers) all anyone can talk about is how they "need to watch the dub".
